Three common forms

Which form should you install?

The same can be used in many forms — this page covers the three most common: a in the terminal, a desktop app and a VS Code extension. Pick the form that suits you, follow the four common steps below, and only swap the command, download or extension ID for each tool.

Form 2

Install as a desktop app

A desktop app is the form you drive with windows and buttons. Download and install it without a terminal, then organize several tasks on screen. Not every tool has an official desktop app.

  1. Download the app for your (macOS, Windows or Linux) from the official site and install it.

  2. Open the app and sign in with that company’s account.

  3. Open the project folder you want to work on, or create a new project.

  4. Write the task and hand it over, then check the chat, results and changed files on screen. You can run several tasks side by side.

Form 3

Install as a VS Code extension

A VS Code extension adds an agent panel inside your code editor. Install it from the extension and ask about the code you select.

  1. In VS Code, open the Extensions view — +Shift+X (Cmd+Shift+X on macOS).

  2. Search for the extension name or below and click [Install]. You can also install it from a terminal with code --install-extension.

  3. Open the agent panel from the new icon in the sidebar or at the top of the editor, and sign in.

  4. Select code and ask for an explanation, a fix or tests, then review the changes beside the source before you accept them.

If your terminal says the code command is not found, run "Shell Command: Install 'code' command in PATH" from the VS Code Command Palette (Ctrl+Shift+P · Cmd+Shift+P).

Every form is the same agent

The CLI, desktop app and VS Code extension only look different — inside, the same agent runs the same loop. So most of what the "What tools share" tab teaches — AGENTS.md, approvals, and 5W1H — carries over as is. Commands and addresses were checked against the official docs on 2026-10-26; if they have changed, follow the official guide.
